TAMPA, Fla. – Forward Madison FC midfielder Don Smart has been named the USL League One Player of the Week for Week 6 of the league’s inaugural 2019 season.
Smart notched a goal and two assists to lead Madison to a 3-1 victory against Toronto FC II on Saturday night, which marked the first home victory for the Flamingos at Breese Stevens Field. Madison is now on a three-game undefeated streak as it enters the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup for the first time on Tuesday night.
GK – Philip Ejimadu, FC Tucson: Ejimadu had a five-save shutout as FCT claimed a 2-0 victory against Lansing Ignite FC for its first home victory in the professional ranks.
D – Alfusainey Jatta, North Texas SC: Jatta recorded nine clearances, won 10 of 17 duels and completed 38 of 53 passes as NTSC posted a shutout road victory against Greenville Triumph SC.
D – Conor Shanosky, Richmond Kickers: Shanosky had an assist and two key passes while completing 59 of 70 passes overall and won 7 of 9 duels and recorded four clearances against Lansing.
D – Jose Carlos Terron, FC Tucson: The Spaniard recorded five clearances, won 8 of 11 duels and had an assist and two key passes as Tucson claimed victory against Lansing Ignite FC.
D – Nathan Simeon, Orlando City B: Simeon recorded 11 recoveries and seven clearances while winning 6 of 8 duels and completed 49 of 59 passes in Orlando’s shutout performance against Chattanooga.
D – Kevin Politz, Greenville Triumph SC: Politz recorded five interceptions and eight recoveries, completed 48 of 55 passes and won 4 of 5 duels as Greenville was edged out by North Texas.
M – Don Smart, Forward Madison FC: Smart had one goal and two assists and completed 26 of 30 passes overall to lead the Flamingos to their first home victory in club history against Toronto.
M – Dennis Chin, Richmond Kickers: Chin scored the opening goal, won 9 of 14 duels and completed 16 of 23 passes to help the Kickers continue their recent undefeated streak.
M – Thomas Roberts, North Texas SC: Roberts scored the game-winner as North Texas ran its winning streak to four games and completed 25 of 31 passes overall against Greenville.
M – Paulo Jr., Forward Madison FC: Junior scored the opening goal, also added an assist, made nine recoveries and completed 25 of 33 passes in Madison’s 3-1 win against Toronto FC II.
F – Daniel Jackson, Richmond Kickers: Jackson scored a dramatic late equalizer for the Kickers against Lansing on Saturday night, and had one key pass and four recoveries while leading the forward line.
