Richmond's Nil Vinyals named Player of the Round with fifth career brace

TAMPA, Fla. – USL League One today announced the Team of the Round for Round 5 of the 2024 USL Jägermeister Cup with Richmond Kickers forward Nil Vinyals named Player of the Round presented by Konami eFootball with his fifth career brace.

In the 20th all-time meeting between former USL Championship sides Charlotte and Richmond, Vinyals helped the Kickers match Joel Johnson and Gabriel Obertan's goal and assist apiece with a first-half brace. In his 101st match as a Kicker, Vinyals elevated his total number of goal contributions to 32, positioning the Spaniard behind only Emiliano Terzaghi (60) and Matthew Delicâte (55) in the Kickers' modern era.

"I'm happy to have contributed to the team's positive performance," Vinyals said. "We aim to maintain our momentum in the league and compete for both league and cup titles at the end of the year."

"Nil worked very hard to help us get back into the game at Charlotte with two great goals," Richmond Chief Sporting Officer and Head Coach Darren Sawatzky said. "His leadership is needed as we fight to get back into the playoff discussion."

Following six Round 5 matches, 10 of 12 teams are represented on the Team of the Round, while Charlotte, Northern Colorado and Omaha place multiple starters on the Team of the Round.
