Hailstorm win USL Jägermeister Cup, all 12 teams remain in postseason as focus shifts to final month of regular season

The busiest regular season month of the season kicks off on Tuesday with a win-and-you're-in clash in Knoxville which precedes pivotal matchups on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday as all 12 teams remain in postseason contention.

Ahead of Week 22, find News & Notes, the Discipline Report and current player, team and league records below.

NEWS & NOTES

All 12 teams alive with postseason one month away

With the inaugural USL Jägermeister Cup done and dusted (congrats, Hailstorm!), October is all about regular season play before the 2024 USL League One Playoffs, presented by Terminix kicks off on Nov. 2. With 27 matches remaining - the most in a single month since September 2023 - all 12 teams remain in postseason contention as the final month of action commences. Ahead of all the action, check out which matches you should keep your eyes on.

  • Oct. 1 - Knoxville vs. Madison
    • The best defensive units in the league and the current Golden Glove leaders, Sean Lewis and Bernd Schipmann, square off with a playoff spot going to the victor.
  • Oct. 2 - Central Valley vs. Northern Colorado
    • The 10th all-time Ice and Fire Cup will be crucial to both sides' postseason hopes as the Hailstorm inch closer to the postseason and Fuego FC aim to stave off elimination.
  • Oct. 19 - Lexington vs. Charlotte
    • Lexington's final League One home match before joining the USL Championship in 2025 will come against former Championship side Charlotte as Cameron Lancaster will look to build upon his 6-1-2 record against the Jacks and score against the visitors in a third consecutive contest.
  • Oct. 26 - Omaha vs. Central Valley
    • As it stands, it'll be first versus last on the final day of the regular season. If those positions hold, history is on the side of the Owls: Players' Shield winners are 12-1-0 with a +24 goal differential in their respective winning seasons all-time against last-place finishers.
  • Oct. 26 - Greenville vs. South Georgia
    • The 22nd all-time Peach States Derby - even at 9-9-3 - will feature the five winningest players in League One history in Evan Lee, Brandon Fricke, Tyler Polak, Conor Doyle and Aaron Walker. The quintet has combined for 56,726 regular season minutes.
  • Oct. 26 - Northern Colorado vs. Madison
    • A 2024 USL Jägermeister Cup Final rematch in Windsor on the final day of the regular season with a ton on the line, although you'd have to assume both sides will already be postseason-bound ahead of this matchup.

Two trophies down, two to go

While no USL League One club could lift the 2024 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, the Hailstorm became the first League One side to claim silverware this season as they were crowned inaugural USL Jägermeister Cup champions last month. With the Players' Shield and League One title up for grabs, take a look at when each current League One side last lifted a trophy.

  1. Northern Colorado Hailstorm FC - 2024 USL Jägermeister Cup
  2. Union Omaha - 2023 USL League One Players' Shield
  3. South Georgia Tormenta FC - 2022 USL League One Playoffs
  4. Richmond Kickers - 2022 USL League One Players' Shield
  5. Greenville - 2020 USL League One Playoffs
  6. Charlotte, Chattanooga, Madison, Central Valley, Knoxville, Lexington, Spokane - Never
